GUESS WHO CAME FOR TEA
August 18th was another lovely and
relaxing day for the guests at Southend & Westcliff Hebrew
Congregation's monthly Pop In afternoons, run by the Care Committee
under the guidance of Fay Sober and Janice Steel. It was an added bonus
to have as guest of honour for the afternoon, local MP David Amess.
David went around the tables talking to the guests and answering
questions, but found time to have a welcome cup of tea and to sample Fay
Sober's delightful cooking.
Also there was SWHC President, Alan Gershlick, who always makes the
effort to come along on Pop In afternoons. Alan loves to get away from
his 'day job' for an hour or two and finds the work and efforts of the
Care Committee most warming and rewarding. He always makes time for
everyone there with a kind word and a smile.
David Amess thanked Janice and Fay for all their hard work and the
guests joined him in a round of applause. The comments and feedback each
month from the attendees make these afternoons so worthwhile and are
beneficial to so many. There are currently in excess of 100 people on
the invitees register and this increases each month. Average attendance
each session is between 60 and 70 people. Janice sends invitations to
the next Pop In to any guest not in attendance and each invitation has a
personal handwritten message for the recipient. Everyone is encouraged
to come along and sample Fay's cooking, but once her delicious cakes
have been sampled, people cannot resist coming back for more. Added to
that, a warm reception, good company in a happy and relaxing atmosphere
it is hardly surprising that the numbers grow each month.
Next Pop In is Tuesday 8th September, between
2pm ad 4pm. Come along and see what you are missing. There is
no charge thanks to kind and generous benefactors who think this a very
worthy cause to care for those who are lonely, bereaved or just need to
get out and enjoy some good company and enjoy a chat. |
