The local J.I.A. committee, although lacking in numbers, manages to raise a substantial amount of money each year and by doing so are identifying Jews around the world who are helping to rescue our fellow Jews from countries of oppression. They also identify with the people of Israel in the enormous task of absorbing thousands of new immigrants, and with this in mind some of the funds raised by the committee is at present ear-marked for a playground for disadvantaged children. Events such as the visit of ex-Australian Prime Minister Mr.Bob Hawke and the visit of Mrs. Elaine Sacks have raised great amounts of money for those in need such as the purchase of equipment for the Maternity Unit at the Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon.
