ORGANISER: MIM ROSE

BACK TO THE COMMUNITY

The Shalom Friendship Club was founded by Mrs. Celia Jacobs (of blessed memory) in 1973. Club meetings were first held in the Synagogue Hall in Alexandra Road, and in March 1984 they moved to Finchley Road. Mrs Jacobs was responsible for putting the Shalom Friendship Club on a firm basis. George Kalms (z'tz"l), under whose guidance success was maintained, succeeded Mrs Jacobs and to date there are 85 paid up members. Mim Rose has now taken over. Their aim is to give members the entertainment they seek. The majority come to play cards, namely solo, kalooki and bridge when a school can be formed. There are alternative games for non-card players. After tea and biscuits, music is enjoyed. Members who have celebrations in their family give a kiddush for their members and those are enjoyed frequently. Chanukah and Purim are celebrated by giving the members a special treat. They keep in contact with members. If one is absent for more than one week, they phone to find the cause of their absence. Birthday cards are sent to all members to wish them well. They constantly try to attract members to the club.
