The Functions committee as the name implies, arranges functions and social activities throughout the year, which have included Yom Ha'atzmaut celebrations, summer fairs and Chanukah parties. In 2004 for the first time, we saw the community's own Menorah raised proudly on the cliffs for the entire town to see. Each night, the candle lighting ceremony was hosted by different organisations and on the first night almost 500 people made up of town dignitaries, other religious leaders and community members, attended the lighting followed by a reception in the Shul Hall. New Horizons concentrates on more educational aspects and was set up to provide interesting and entertaining evenings that were a little different. These have included a multi-media presentation on the life of George Gershwin, a talk on the Jews of China accompanied by authentic Chinese food from the Kaifeng restaurant, a Jewish Chronicle 'Any Questions Evening' and talks on subjects as diverse as Kaballah and The Jewish Attitude to Astrology. In addition, New horizons arrange a candle lighting ceremony and service for Yom Hashoah with very moving and interesting speakers.
