The Synagogue Office has
been approached by a company called 'Revealing Secrets' for assistance with
tracking down a family. The company
specialises in discovering the history behind objects of interest that people
have handed in to them. At the moment they have a conch shell with the name
Sally Karassin

this lady was an Egyptian Jewess, who in fact died in Egypt in 1926 aged 72.

time at least in Southend. The daughter known as Ettie Black
used to live at 3 Marine Parade,(Southend?) and the family were known to run a

My name is William Greenberg
Summer,
Billy or Bill to my friends. I lived many years in Westcliff and
have lost touch with almost all my friends from school and shul as I moved away
in 1984. I'm now a forty year old living and working in London. Some
of my close friends were: Martin Cohen,
formerly of Britannia
Road. David &
Lindsey
Orlans
of Ditton Court Road. Angela Berman
of First Avenue, Westcliff.
My
great grandfather (James
Ashman Wilder
b. 1876) came from Essex County (Leigh). He arrived in Canada in 1903. His
father's name was Abraham Henry Wilder
also from Leigh. I've always been told there is Jewish blood in the family. It's
never been confirmed or really talked about, at least in recent years. Just
hoping someone might have some data for me. I'm in the Canadian Army and have
spent time in the Middle East, most recently a year in Israel. To be honest, I
am fascinated with the religion and interested in finding out more about my
ancestry. Contact me by email

Barbara
Lever
is trying to find details of the
Kinsler
family who lived at 31 Ceylon Road, Westcliff-on-Sea. Bernard and Malka (Millie)
Kinsler
lived in the house around the 1920s. They died and the property passed on to the
son, Jack Kinsler
who was Barbara's uncle. When Jack died, the house passed on to his wife Anne.
From here on, information about the family is sought. Barbara is aware
that a large quantity of photos and memorabilia existed, which would have passed
on to younger generations of the family. Barbara would like to get in touch with
any family members and wonders if anyone still has some of the old photos and
memorabilia as they have great historical value.

I'm trying
to find out if my grandmother is still alive and if she ever remarried and had
more children. My Grandmother, Hansi
Rosen,
Neé Wertheimer,
born at Oderberg, Czechia citzen of Langenzersdorf (Korneuberg, lower Austria)
Parents Isidor & Erna Wiener,
born in 1915 October the 1st. Hansi married my grandfather Fritz
Rosen
20 June 1937 in Pazmanitengasse in Vienna, in the 2nd district Synagogue. In
1943 she (to the best of my knowledge) deserted her 3 year old daughter Erna (my
mother) and her husband. This was the story told to us by our grandfather, who
has since passed on. My mother has never seen or heard from her again, which is
heartbreaking. I believe that in about 1968 she was seen on a bus in Essex on
the Sea in the UK and believed to have lived there, and at that stage she had
not remarried. Is it at all possible for anyone to help us find out where she is
or where she has been layed to rest or if she ever had more children. If you
cannot assist us, you may know of someone who can. Much appreciated Kind Regards

My grandmother Tova Kopferzmid was born in the small town of Rawa Mazowiecka in Poland. In 1939 she fled the Nazis and escaped into Russia, ending up eventually in a refugee camp in Tanzania until the end of the war. In later years she told my family almost nothing about life in Rawa before 1939 or about how she survived the war, and sadly she passed away before I could ask her anything. I am researching her family history and the history of our town and have just come across an article submitted by Morgan Frydland to the BBC about the life of his father Woolf Frydland, also born in Rawa Mazowiecka and who made a similar escape east. I would very much like to contact Morgan about his father's story. If anyone is able to put me in touch I would be very grateful. Merav Shub Tel: (removed by editor.
